Oncology 11.0

The cancer is growing again….. according the most recent CT scan. My CEA is slowly creeping upwards as well, although it has been doing that for 5 months now, at least it has been a slow creep.

The latest report shows that 3 of the 4 nodes remain largely unchanged, but unlike previous reports, this time there is convincing change in one of the nodes sitting in behind my left renal vein. The January scan measured it as 9 x 17mm, it now measures 13 x 21mm, thats a 4 x 4 mm increase in growth over the last 3 months.

Essentially it spells out that the beginning of the end is slowly creeping up on me. It was always going to be an inevitable turn, the question was a matter of when rather than if, and to be honest, when came a lot later than both I and oncologists would have expected.

So the question where to from here is yet to be answered. The next oncology appointment that I have will clarify that further in terms of treatment options. Also, any further surgical option at this stage has also been ruled out as any resection is likely to be risky and unsuccessful.

Until next time…

As a mother of a son your age Jared, this is very difficult information to take in. As I sit here and quietly weep for someone I hardly know, my heart goes out to you and Hannah and your family and friends. We never do know when that spinning wheel (we see on the telly ads) is going to stop and at whom. Thank you for your blogs which updates where you are at physically and emotionally….and just wish that life had no “sucks” in it at all. May you get all the love and support you need to carry you through an extremely difficult journey.

This update though upsetting leads me to rely on the fact that you and Hannah are going through these in God’s strength and are dependent on His wisdom. He is and never was mistaken. We are praying for you and Hannah.

I can’t wait for Easter Camp and for the message you’ll be bring to 4100 teens! Though your situation sucks, something great will come because of it. Romans 8:28.

Hi Jared.I was saddened to hear that your tumour is growing. My husband was diagnosed in August 2009 with stage 4 colorectal cancer that had spread to his liver and peritoneium. Like you he has been on chemo since then and is about to have treatment number 35. Are you able to get Erbitux treatment in NZ as it seems to have helped both my husband as well as Kristian Anderson. My husbands count was slowly creeping up to 294 and afer a few treatments it is down to 58 although he hasn’t had any scans since starting this new treatment.
My thoughts, prayers and best wishes go out to you and Hannah.
Keep living life to the full.
    Regards
    Gail.

    Hi Jared and Hannah,

I have a prayer meeting to go to this evening and I will mention this report and ask everyone to pray. Will do the same at my home-group this Wednesday night. We will also pray for your speaking engagement this Easter. Will pray too that you are able to have the medication Gail mentioned in her comment. My thoughts and love are with you and Hannah. Maree xx

    Hi Jared,
I’ve watched last two episodes of The Biggest Loser which were filmed in New Zealand. Auckland and Queenstown. What a heart stoppingly beautiful county. All that wild beauty and power. Like you’ve mentioned in previous posts, our eyes are opened by this disease.
I’m in a beautiful part of the planet as well, no mountains but peaceful, lush, green and clean Prince Edward Island.
So sorry to read your cancer is progressing.
    Sincerely, Lynn
